I'll Love You Always: A Musical Valentine
Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall
With vocalist Shanna Anjali, Reuel Lubag Trio; Mosaic Brass Quintet, classical guitarist John Paul Shields, and sax player Jack Klitzman. NEW: Special guest, classical pianist William Chapman Nyaho.
A song of love written 12 years ago in memory of a lost brother is the catalyst for this eclectic concert, which will support the programs and services of Lifelong AIDS Alliance.
When Rich Hinrichsen of Seattle lost his younger brother, Steve, to AIDS in 1993, he turned to music for solace. His song for Steve, "I'll Love You Always," blends Blood Sweat & Tears/Chicago brass, soul, a Bach-inspired chorale and heart-felt vocals about love, loss and hope. Last month, Rich finally realized a dream, recording the song at Triad Studios in Redmond with some of the area's top musicians from across genres.
The show will re-unite most of those musicians. Like the song, the event defies pigeonholing, instead featuring a sampler of musical styles from classical to pop, jazz to R&B. Because it's nearly Valentine's Day, the musicians will pay tribute to romance, but the audience should also expect some surprises. After playing their own sets, all the artists will re-unite on stage for the grand finale performance of "I'll Love You Always."
