Harpist and singer-songwriter Joanna Newsom has gained much attention on the independent music circuit with her debut album, The Milk-Eyed Mender (2004), as well as her second album, Ys (2006). Newsom has collaborated with the indie folk band Vetiver, as well as with folk singer and guitarist Devendra Banhart. Her unique blend of styles continues to evolve, influenced by everything from Appalachian music to West African polyrhythm.
