Mahler Symphony No. 5

Masterworks >

Mahler's colossal Fifth Symphony embraces an entire world of sound, from the heart-rending funeral march to the serene and loving Adagietto. Based on the reflection of his tumultuous relationship with the daughter of a famous painter and its trajectory from mourning to triumph, the Fifth occupies a pivotal place in Mahler’s endlessly fascinating output. Ligeti's monolithic Requiem goes beyond this world, as proven by its iconic appearance in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, the perfect warm up for the full theatrical presentation on June 30 & July 1.

Amos Lee Live in Concert with the Seattle Symphony

Live at Benaroya Hall >

Singer-songwriter Amos Lee joins the Seattle Symphony for a one-night-only concert event. Lee will perform songs from his latest studio album, Spirit (released August 2016), an ambitious self-produced album that marries modern rhythms with classic instrumentation and was inspired by his recent collaborations with orchestras and choirs. While his last two albums bore the stamp of strong producers (Joey Burns of Calexico and Jay Joyce of Little Big Town, Eric Church, Cage the Elephant), Lee finally felt ready to take over the helm with this latest record. Over the course of more than a dozen years and six studio albums, Amos Lee has continued to evolve, develop and challenge himself as a musician. With Spirit, he makes his biggest creative leap yet.
