School Activities

Soundbridge School/Organization Membership and Visits

Listen, think and link Soundbridge experiences with performance, practice, informal and formal music education, as well as humanities and science curriculum. All Soundbridge exhibits and programs align with the Washington State Essential Learning Requirements (EALRs) for Arts Education.

An annual Soundbridge school/organization membership ($75) includes the opportunity to experience Soundbridge exhibits for free with advanced registration. Check out the programs we offer to enhance your Soundbridge experience.

Advance registration is required for all school/organization visits. Reservation requests (see below) must be submitted one month before preferred visit date.Classes do fill quickly; please note that field trip requests are honored on a first-come, first-served basis, and that your requested date is not guaranteed. The following field trips are included with your Soundbridge school/organization membership ($75). Groups are allowed up to two visits per month for each of the following classes.

Exploration Time
Any Age

Visit Soundbridge as a class to explore our exhibits, try your skills at WiiTM music, play real symphonic instruments, and experiment with our new Songsmith® songwriting software.

Musical Storytelling
Ages 2 - 5

This 30-minute class is a unique opportunity for children to connect music to some of their favorite stories. In each class, we read a story and play music that relates to the book. Children sing songs and play musical games, and frequently see and play symphonic instruments.

Reservations: Musical Storytelling is available for reservation Wednesdays through Fridays, at select times.

Everyone Come Drum!
All Ages

Learn about a different musical genre each week, practice playing together as an ensemble, and enjoy 45 minutes of guided drum circle fun!

Instrument Exploration
Ages 5+

This 30-minute class is tailored specifically to your class and to your students’ interests. Children are given the opportunity to learn about and play real symphonic instruments.

Science of Sound
Ages 7-11

Understand music’s relationship to math, physics, biology and psychology. Explore the idea of sound waves and vibrations; watch sound waves on an oscilloscope; learn about acoustics; and more. The program satisfies EALRs 1.1, 2.3, 4.2

Program Fee: First class of 30 visitors free with Soundbridge school membership ($75). Additional visitors and/or presentations are $2 per person.

Reservations: Science of Sound class available for reservation on Wednesdays & Thursdays at 11am.

Songwriting Workshops
Ages 5+

Led by singer/songwriter David Paul Mesler, these 60-minute workshops encourage creative thinking and uncover new musical talents as students work together to write a unique song. Students will learn basic concepts of music composition and gain positive exposure to the creative musical process.

Program Fee: First class of 30 visitors free with Soundbridge school membership ($75). Additional visitors and/or presentations are $2 per person.

Reservations: Songwriting Workshops are available for reservation on Thursdays at 11am.

Instrument-Making Workshop
Ages 5+

This 30- to 60-minute class is tailored to your students’ age and interests. Children learn how to make their own instrument to take home.

Program Fee: First class of 30 visitors free with Soundbridge school membership ($75). Additional visitors and/or presentations are $2 per person. Additional materials fee of $1 is applied to all participants.

Symphony on Wheels

Many of the programs listed above can come to your school or organization! The colorful Symphony on Wheels van arrives at your school with education staff, volunteers and orchestral instruments. This program is intended to motivate students to participate in their school's instrumental music program.

Program Fee: $75 per class, plus a travel fee starting at $50. Materials fees may also apply.
