Soundbridge School/Organization Group Visit

Listen, think and link Soundbridge experiences with performance, practice, informal and formal music education as well as humanities and science curriculum. All Soundbridge exhibits and programs align with the Washington State Essential Learning Requirements for Arts Education.

Experience the Science of Sound in Soundbridge!
Great for grades 2 through 5!
Science curriculum extensions led by Seattle Symphony Science Educator

Understand music’s relationship to math, physics, biology and psychology.
Explore the idea of sound waves and vibrations; watch sound waves on an oscilloscope; learn about acoustics, transmission, reflections, absorption and sound isolation; play the walls of the S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium (when available) as it becomes a huge “talking drum” and more. The program satisfies EALRs 1.1, 2.3, 4.2

Program fee: First class visit – up to 25 students and 5 adults ($2 per additional person) – complimentary with an annual Soundbridge school membership ($60); subsequent visits are $60 each with a $2 per person charge over 25 students and 5 adults.

Advanced registration required. Presentations begin October 1, 2007.

Soundbridge curriculum extensions

Design your Soundbridge visit to integrate music into your curriculum or enhance your Seattle Art Museum visit. Classes include Salish story, song and dance, as well as musical storytelling, instrument exploration, and music history and theory. These classes are free to member schools and are scheduled on Thursdays. Non-member schools: $60 per class (25 students and 5 adults).

Seattle Symphony UBS Masterworks Season Concerts for Clock Hours
Attend a UBS Masterworks Season concert with a pre-concert lecture one hour before the performance for 3 clock hours through Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA). Overview of concerts of particular interest to educators. Experience an Open Rehearsal and meet Seattle Symphony musicians.

1–4pm
Process of Music Making (3 clock hours through WMEA)
Composition workshop for music and non-music classrooms with Samuel Jones, Seattle Symphony Composer in Residence. Includes informative discussions on the social and historical contexts of great composers.

Seattle Symphony in Your Classroom is also available for 1 quarter credit or 10 clock hours through Seattle Pacific University with additional assignments and a concert attendance requirement.
