Volunteering

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play essential roles within the Seattle Symphony, and their work helps the Symphony maintain high levels of service to the general community. Current open volunteer positions include the following:

Friday Matinees
Accompany groups on buses to and from the Hall and direct groups as they arrive and depart these noontime concerts on four Fridays throughout the season.

Artist Aides
Provide transportation for Seattle Symphony guest artists, to and from the airport and hotel, and provide backstage assistance during performances when needed. To become an artist aide, a candidate must complete 6 months of volunteering and be recommended by a volunteer leader they have worked with during that time.

Education & Community Engagement
Assist with programs for families and students, including Tiny Tots (newborn to age 5); Discover Music (ages 6 to 12); Arts in Education (5th grade); Friday Matinees when school groups are present; and Open Rehearsals (6th grade and up). September to June during the weekday, occasionally Friday and Saturday mornings.

Fundraising/Special Events
Volunteer at many levels: address invitations, wrap gifts for event attendees, help with decorations and more. Help deliver poinsettias in the Seattle area during the first week of December. Fundraising volunteers are needed periodically at varying days and times.

Greeters
Our Greeter program provides an opportunity for our volunteers to interact directly with the patrons attending the concerts.

Leadership Positions
Assist committee chairs with events or begin preparations for serving on the SSV Board of Directors. Weekly time commitment and dedication to the organization are necessary.

Membership Events
Events for the Seattle Symphony/Seattle Symphony Volunteer family vary each year but, at a minimum, include an Annual Luncheon and Volunteer Recognition Event.

Office Support
Provide essential office support and assistance to Symphony staff during the workday. Organize and maintain files, assist with mailings, input computer data and help with other clerical functions. Most office assistance is needed during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.

Soundbridge, Seattle Symphony Music Discovery Center
Enhance the experience of our music discovery center by assisting with exhibits, helping with school groups, and answering questions. Volunteer hours are available Tuesday through Sunday during the day.

Symphonica, The Symphony Store
Assist in the Symphony retail store in the Boeing Company Gallery of Benaroya Hall. Mostly evenings, before, at intermission and after concerts.

Ushers
Assist Benaroya Hall ushers at the National Geographic Live, Seattle Arts and Lectures in the Taper Auditorium and occasionally in the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall.
