Volunteering

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers play essential roles within Seattle Symphony, and their work helps the Symphony maintain high levels of service to the general community. Current open volunteer positions include the following:

Symphonica, The Symphony Store
Help out in the Symphony's elegant retail space in The Boeing Company Gallery of Benaroya Hall. Volunteer sales associates actively promote sales, assist customers and help keep the shop in order. A professional manager provides training, guidance and support on an individual basis.

Office Support
Provide essential office support and assistance to Symphony staff during the workday. Organize and maintain files, assist with mailings, input computer data and help with other clerical functions. Most office assistance is needed during normal business hours, Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.

Fundraising/Special Events
Volunteer at many levels: address invitations, wrap gifts for gala attendees, help with decorations and more. Help deliver poinsettias in the Seattle area during the first week of December. Fundraising volunteers are needed periodically at varying days and times.

Greeters
Our goal is to create a warm and inviting environment for Seattle Symphony patrons. The greeter program gives outgoing people an opportunity to interact directly with the public and make them feel welcome at Symphony concerts. Greeters generally work evening and weekend concerts, September through July. Training and a six-month commitment required.

Soundbridge, Seattle Symphony Music Discovery Center
Enhance the experience of our music discovery center by assisting with exhibits, helping with school groups, and answering questions. Volunteer hours are available Tuesday through Sunday, 10am to 4pm.

Education & Outreach
Assist with children's/students' programs like Tiny Tots (newborn to age 5), Discover Music! (ages 5 to 12), MySymphony (ages 13 to 18), Arts in Education (5th grade) and Symphony on Wheels (3rd and 4th grade). September to June during the school day, and occasional Saturday mornings.

Afternoons with the Symphony
This program brings seniors to weekday afternoon concerts several times per season. Accompany groups on buses to and from the Hall, or assist and direct groups as they arrive at and depart the concert.

Membership Events
Events for the Seattle Symphony/Seattle Symphony Volunteer (SSV) family vary each year but, at a minimum, include a late spring luncheon and volunteer recognition event. Volunteer at many levels: address invitations, greet, help with set-up and more. Volunteers are needed during various days and times when working Membership Events.

Ushers
Provide occasional ushering services to the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall in Benaroya Hall. Schedules vary and are periodic.

Leadership Positions
Assist committee chairs with events or begin preparations for serving on the SSV Board of Directors. Weekly time commitment and dedication to the organization are necessary.

To sign up as a volunteer for one of these great positions, visit our Getting Started page.

Other positions that require volunteer assistance, but for which no openings are currently available, include the following: docents and artist aides.

* Receive Overture, the SSV's newsletter for volunteers, by volunteers.

* Receive one ticket to certain pre-selected performances for each six volunteer hours worked, subject to availability.

You are welcome to volunteer at the Symphony without becoming a member; however membership gives benefits over and above the ones listed above. For more information, see our Be a Member, Too! page.
