In addition, you may enjoy some tax advantages with outright gifts of capital assets, such as securities, real estate or other planned gifts. Matching gifts may double your giving power. Tribute gifts are a wonderful way to honor a loved one. PONCHO auctions are a fun way to support the Symphony. Read on for details about each of these giving opportunities. To find out how you can give more strategically, please contact the Development Office at 206.215.4832.
Gifts of Stock
Suppose you have owned stock for over a year and its value has increased. If you donated the shares to the Symphony, you would avoid paying capital gains taxes – and receive a deduction for the stock's full fair market value. In addition, selling your investments that have declined in value and donating the cash proceeds may allow you to deduct more than the current value of the stocks. Matching Gifts
Double the impact of your dollars with a matching gift! Your employer's matching funds will not only make a substantial difference to the Symphony, but also may upgrade your membership level and benefits. Please contact your human resources office for more information on matching gifts. Click here for a list of some companies that have a matching gift program.
Planned Gifts
Bequests, charitable trusts and charitable gift annuities are designated to the Seattle Symphony Endowment Fund and are a great way to support the Symphony in the future. Such gifts may even increase your own cash flow. To learn more, explore the Symphony's Musical Legacy Society or contact Marita Sheeran, Director of Gift Planning, at 206.215.4852.
Memorial Gifts and Tribute Gifts
The Symphony welcomes gifts made in memory of a loved one or in honor of a celebration, such as:
- Weddings
- Graduations
- Births
- Baptisms
- Birthdays
- Anniversaries
- Bar Mitzvahs
- Bat Mitzvahs
To honor a loved one or music lover, please make a check payable to Seattle Symphony, and mail it
to the Symphony (ATTN: Marita Sheeran, P.O. Box 21906, Seattle, WA, 98111-3906) with a note indicating the
purpose of the donation and the name and address of the person to be notified of your honorary or
celebratory gift.
