Saint-Saëns Symphony No. 3 Organ

Masterworks >

Saint-Saëns’ astonishingly long career spanned from Beethoven to Stravinsky, which meant he was forever experimenting with new styles. This constant evolution shows through in his thrilling and majestic Third Symphony, which he himself acknowledged to be daunting to perform. Daunting or not, it’s a one-of-a-kind work that’s perfectly suited to Benaroya Hall with its famous and impressive organ!

Brahms V. Radiohead

Exclusives >

An amazing process of analysis, discovery, deconstruction and reconstruction led to Brahms V. Radiohead — a synthesis of Brahms' First Symphony (1882) and Radiohead's OK Computer (1997). All four movements of the Brahms and eight songs from the Radiohead album are featured. The envelope of what is possible and permissible is constantly pushed, with Radiohead songs being superimposed above Brahms' music, Radiohead's melodies being altered to coexist with Brahms' harmonies, the motives of one interjected into the other, and departures from the score left and right to accommodate journeys into a new compelling and captivating world that is at once both musics. Three vocalists sing the melodies of Radiohead, both in solo and harmony.

Tinariwen

Live at Benaroya Hall >

These extraordinary guitar-poets from the southern Sahara desert blend blues, rock and pop with Berber and Arabic influences to create an altogether hypnotic concert experience. A bass chord and a chorus of male voices open the dance, followed by youyous, cries and handclaps. The powerful melodies of Tinariwen have become the soundtrack for a whole generation of exiled Touareg youth living in Algeria and Libya. Their latest album, Elwan (2017), continues this theme. While Tinariwen were criss-crossing the globe on their recent triumphant tours, the frontiers that encircle their desert home were closing and forcing them into exile to record this album.

WATCH: Tinariwen performs "Sastanàqqàm" from the album Elwan (2017).
