Dvořák New World Symphony

Masterworks Series >

“”

One of the most popular symphonies of all time, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 continues to enchant. In his musical postcard “From the New World,” Dvořák explores his understanding of African-American spirituals and transcriptions of Indigenous melodies — intermingled with the sounds of his native Bohemia and his own personal musical voice. The result: a cascade of majestic fanfares, longing melodies and lush harmonies that have captivated audiences for generations. This piece of American musical history sits perfectly alongside a new work by one of our country’s greatest living composers: John Adams' multiculturally-inspired I Still Dance.
