Music of Remembrance: Ceija

The Holocaust touched people of countless faces, places and identities. In the world premiere of a striking multimedia work by rising young composer Mary Kouyoumdjian, you’ll meet Ceija Stojka, the Roma artist from Austria whose paintings and writing bear vivid testimony to what she witnessed as a prisoner in three concentration camps. Also, music by Osvaldo Golijov, with new choreography from the innovative Olivier Wevers of Whim W’Him Seattle Contemporary Dance, depicting the doomed young love of a Jewish woman and a Gypsy man. Evocative Korngold songs, featuring beloved mezzo soprano Catherine Cook, recall the Viennese magic that still remained in the early decades of the 20th century.
