Violin virtuoso and artistic partner Joseph Swensen returns to the stage to lead the Sinfonietta from his instrument, presenting three masterpieces of the violin literature. Audiences were enthralled by this unique experience last season, when the orchestra performed a lively, unconducted performance of the Brahms violin concerto.
This year, Swensen leads audiences on a musical tour from the heart of Europe to the east. Mozart's stunning third Violin Concerto, composed at just 19, is the centerpiece of the program. An youthful, energetic work, it is perfectly composed for the intimate setting of the Northwest Sinfonietta. Czech composer Antonin Dvořák's passionate Romance opens the concert, which ends with the fiery showpiece by the great Russian romantic, Tchaikovsky.
