Simon James

First Violin

Second Assistant Concertmaster Simon James has been a member of the Seattle Symphony since 1988; he is also a member of the Australian World Orchestra and was recently guest concertmaster with the Western Australia Symphony Orchestra.

Mae Lin

First Violin

Mae Lin joined the Seattle Symphony in 2008 as a member of the second violin section. Having grown up in Bellevue, she was very excited to return home to join her hometown symphony.

Born in Moscow, Russia, Mikhail Shmidt began his musical education at age 5 and won the Concertino Prague at age 14.

Principal Violist of the Seattle Symphony since the 1992-1993 season, Susan Gulkis Assadi enjoys a varied career as an orchestral player, chamber musician, soloist and teacher.

Mara Gearman


A member of the Seattle Symphony viola section, Seattle native Mara Gearman also regularly performs at the Olympic, Methow and Eastern music festivals.

Sayaka Kokubo


Born in Tokyo, Japan, Kokubo joined the Seattle Symphony in 2007.

Before joining the Seattle Symphony in 2009, Assistant Principal Cello Meeka Quan DiLorenzo held the title of Associate Principal Cello of the Utah Symphony for five seasons.
