Known for their daring and unique performances, Romanian American Chamber Concerts & Arts - ROCCA returns to Benaroya Hall for a Third Edition of their concerts! This flamboyant concert includes the Seattle premiere of George Enescu's monumental String Quartet no. 2, the U.S. premiere of Vagn Holmboe's Sonata for Violin and Piano no. 2 replete with folklore from Transylvania, shimmering Sieben frühe Lieder by Alban Berg who was only 20 years old when he composed these magnificent songs, and the U.S. premiere of the newly commissioned Forrest Pierce's Sufism-infused piece titled What Keeps Us Still for soprano and piano quintet. Dvořák's Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs) will fittingly round off the concert. ROCCA Founder & Artistic Director, pianist Oana Rusu Tomai, Lincoln Center soprano Laura Bohn, Seattle Symphony violinist Mikhail Shmidt and Girsky Quartet. As a special surprise, Pacific Northwest Ballet dancer Cecilia Iliesiu joins us to invite our audiences to step into an enthralling choreography fusing into music experience.
Important Note: ROCCA Youth Pre-Concert, a FREE event presenting gifted young pianists, will take place at 2 pm.
