“[Amanda Forsythe] and Jaroussky spar vividly as he leads her out of the Underworld ...” (Gramophone).
Dive into the mythical world of Orfeo, the legendary musician who journeyed into the underworld to bring his beloved wife Euridice back to life. Rockstar countertenor Philippe Jaroussky assumes the role of the mythic Orfeo, guiding us through three major operatic settings of this tale by opera pioneers Monteverdi, Sartorio and Rossi.
A little over 30 years old, the counter-tenor Philippe Jaroussky has already won a pre-eminent place in the international musical landscape, as confirmed by the Victoires de la Musique (Revelation Lyric Artist in 2004 and then Lyric Artist of the Year in 2007 and 2010) and, recently, the prestigious Echo Klassik Awards in Germany, at the 2008 ceremony in Munich (Singer of the Year) then the 2009 in Dresden (with L'Arpeggiata).
Amanda Forsythe has been praised by Opera News for her “light and luster”, and “wonderful agility and silvery top notes”. She has been a winner of the George London Foundation Awards and was sponsored by them in her New York recital début.
