With this program we invite you into the intimate world of the great Johannes Brahms. We present his famous Lullaby, op. 49, no. 4, and the songs for alto, viola, and piano - one of which he offered as a gift to his friends Joseph Joachim and Amalie Weiss on the birth of their son. These works are juxtaposed with Joachim’s own “Hebrew Melodies” for viola and piano, and a new work for alto, viola, and piano by Jonathan Woody, commissioned by BS&F as a companion piece to the Brahms. Brahms’s beloved waltzes are paired with equally delightful duets by the Polish Romantic composer Maria Szymanowska.
