Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas represent the pinnacle of violin repertoire. The chaconne that closes the second partita often stands alone as one of Bach’s most beloved masterpieces. Violinist Rachell Ellen Wong brings her passion, intensity, and virtuosity to the entire partita, allowing us to hear Bach’s great chaconne in its original context. Also included on our program are a chaconne for harpsichord by George Frideric Handel, and sonatas by Jean-Marie Leclair and Antonio Vivaldi. Andrew Gonzalez joins us on the rare violoncello da spalla, a small five stringed cello held on the shoulder.
